Carruth Cellars, an urban winery approaching 20k cases, sources grapes from various AVAs in California's North Coast and produces award winning wine in San Diego, CA.  We're looking for an enthusiastic, hard-working addition to our team to help us process our 2019 vintage - roughly September 1st through November 15th with the possibility of continuing permanently. We're looking for people with winemaking experience, a stellar work ethic, and good communication skills.


This position requires working in a fast-paced, physically-demanding environment, under conditions of physical and mental fatigue, while maintaining clarity, focus, and a positive attitude. Applicants must be willing to stand, crawl, kneel, and climb for many hours, and repeatedly carry heavy objects up ladders. We are looking for a team player who is hard-working, reliable, and self-motivated. 


This is a full time position. Wage DOE.

• Performs all basic cellar activities: receive fruit, pressing, sorting, additions, rackings etc.
• Performs sanitation of all equipment and facility
• Performs cellar QC, including but not limited to:
Basic lab analysis and additions
Inventory and record keeping
• Assists Director of Winemaking with in-house tastings and blending trials
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
• Conducts educational tours and tastings as needed
• Contributes to the continuous improvement of the winemaking processes and procedures
• Equipment and Tank Sanitation
• Inoculations
• Fermentation Monitoring
• Cap management
• Drain & Press Operations
• Barrel Preparation
• Racking & Barrel Filling
• Topping
• Wine, juice, & must movements
• Additions to wine, juice, & must
• General winery clean up
• Grape Sampling

• Excellent communication skills
• “All hands on deck” attitude
• Ability to move and stack barrels
• healthy condition (both physically and mentally)

• Ability to operate a forklift
• Degree in Enology or related science field
• Minimum of two years of cellar experience
• Good organoleptic senses and a strong desire to learn
• Developing palate
• Proficiency in basic computer software (e.g. Word/Pages, Excel/Numbers, etc.)
• Ability to write tasting notes
