Tasting Notes: 98% Cabernet Sauvignon, 2% Petit Verdot On the nose, you’ll experience a bright fruitiness that is both inviting and vibrant with notes of ripe plum, succulent black cherry and luscious blackberry. High tannins contribute to the wine’s structure and provide a firm, gripping sensation on the palate. A touch of clove & baking spice add complexity and depth to the overall flavor profile. To soften the high tannins and allow the flavors to develop fully, it is recommended to open the bottle and let the wine sit for about an hour before serving.

About the Wine: In celebration of the incredible 2019 winemaking season, Adam Carruth, owner & winemaker, is proud to announce the release of our inaugural, high-end label called Barrel Select. The first release of this label features two Bordeaux-inspired wines that are some of the best wines Carruth has produced, a 2019 BDX Blend and 2019 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon. Showcasing how Carruth Cellars has grown & matured over the 13+ years since our inception, these wines offer San Diego residents a taste of high-end Napa quality wines made locally in beautiful San Diego.

On Oct 23th, 2019, the call was made to pick the remaining fruit from Reynoso Vineyards ahead of the Kincade fire. With all hands on deck, the beautiful Cabernet Sauvignon was saved and treated with special care, starting with extended maceration. We co-fermented the Cab with 2% Petit Verdot to add another layer of complexity, and also saignée the tank during fermentation which resulted in a more concentrated wine with richer color & tannin.
